the beginning of something big?

Last night we had dinner with a number of friends to discuss intentional community. Wow. “Intentional” community. I am not COMPLETELY sure what that means, but most of us agreed that we, as a “community” of friends, wanted something more.

Our friends, L and J, began inviting us to gatherings at their home almost two years ago (roughly?) for what we began calling “soup night.” No agenda. Just friends and food. It has been good. Very good. People we met for the first time quickly became friends and those we were already friends with became close friends. It’s amazing what good company and a bowl of soup can do (okay, we have wine, too).

But last night we talked about becoming something more. We talked about using the different gifts that we all have to help others, to be on the lookout for people in need; whether they be friends, acquaintances, or people with whom we have a chance meeting. I have to admit, it’s a simple idea and I kind of like it. The beginning of something big? Who knows?

I hope so.
